LiveJournal Major Notes: Global navigation, Mobile, Bug fixes

We've updated the global navigation menu:
Here's a quick breakdown of what you'll find where:- Scrapbook can now be found under My Stuff, along with Settings, Stats, and Edit Profile.
- You'll find all the tools you need to post and update entries under Journal, which includes posting and editing entries, managing comments and tags, and customizing your journal's style.
- Friends contains all of your friend settings, from filtering your Friends page to adding, removing, and finding new and existing friends on LiveJournal.
- Under Communities, you'll find links to manage your communities, accept community invites, and create new communities.
- Explore includes search features, RSS feeds, Question of the Day, and FRNK radio.
- Under Shop, you'll find links to upgrade or give a paid account, buy virtual gifts, purchase LiveJournal merchandise (like T-shirts), and view your payment history.
LiveJournal Mobile update:
We've enhanced LiveJournal's mobile site to improve usability and load times. We've made more of LiveJournal's features accessible via mobile, including posting comments, uploading photos, reading and commenting on friends' posts, finding and messaging friends, and more. We look forward to reviewing your feedback and recommendations for future improvements.Other important changes:
- You can lock comments to prevent further commenting on a post, while leaving existing comments visible.
- We replaced the "Tell a friend" link with a new "Share This" widget that lets you share LiveJournal posts on other social media sites, including Facebook, Digg, Twitter, etc.
- We changed some of the icons on entries (you can hover over the icons to view descriptions).
- You'll see a Tag count on your Tag management page.
- You'll now see the 10 most recent vgifts on your profile page. To remove vgifts, left-click on the vgift and choose whether you want to remove the vgift from your profile or delete it entirely.
- We've added options to help you control receipt of vgifts, which you'll find in My Stuff under Edit Profile. You can now enable vgifts from friends or everyone and disable anonymous vgifts.
We've got your fix:
- UPDATE: There was an unintentional change in the price of userpics. We will do a patch release to fix this ASAP, and we'll refund anyone who purchased userpics at the higher price.
- Non-conforming images will now be automatically resized for custom mood themes.
- Line breaks no longer count as two characters against your entry's character limit.
- We fixed a bug on the Manage Tags page so you can clear all tags and add new tags.
- We corrected the UI for the update.bml page so it displays properly in IE8.

I feel kinda weird doing this, but since I don't know anyone in St. Louis, I thought this may be the best place to start.
I need two things. Thing 1.) Where is a good place to meet people? I'm in serious need of some friends.
I moved here from Portland a year ago but have had to go back countless times to help my family settle my mothers affairs after she passed away. So I haven't really had the time or energy to go out and meet new people, and I'm tired of all my friends being two thousand miles away. lol, it makes for rather lonely Friday nights. So dear St. Louis community, where can a shy, 21 year old girl make some friends?
Thing 2.) I so very badly need a job. I live in University City, and I don't drive. It's a real bummer. I've only had two jobs (waitress and receptionist for a moving company) and I have some huge time gaps in my resume. The time gap is because I was taking care of my mother (she had cancer) and she couldn't get state help at the time, nor could she take care of herself.
It seems, in my experience at least, you find employment with the help of friends, family or acquaintances (or a stellar resume) all of which I don't yet have out here. So any tiny bit of help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! ~Alexandria.

Has anyone filed bankruptcy recently? Can you recommend a lawyer or law firm....or tell me who to avoid?
I am not sure exactly what my options are, so I need someone who will look at my situation...and then tell me how I can fix it!
Your help is appreciated! Thanks!

Oh hey, LJ isn't blocked at work, that's pretty cool.
Anyhow, to my point. I hate to spam you guys, but our kids at the St. Louis Language Immersion School (a.k.a. SLLIS) really, severely need a new playground. And there's these guys here who want to give us $5,000 for that if we wind up snagging a top 3 spot in their poll, how cool is that?
Currently we're in 4th place. However, my learnings on the internets have led me to conclude, if there's one thing livejournalfolk can do, it's vote to win. So it only seems logical that I turn to you lot for help: you can vote once a day every day (please make a note?) and pass it on.
Here's the URL to cast your vote: http://projects.kaboom.org/voting/elect ions/video_2010 - please bookmark it and come back! :)
Thanks a lot in advance, guys.

I finished the gray stripe scarf for Joanna's friend. It's gorgeous, I think. A little shine from the silk and tencel, but a lot of soft from the Cashmere. Woo hoo! Still enough warp on the loom for one more. It was easy enough to cut them off between scarves because I left 8" for fringe.
I haven't taken pictures yet but I will soon.
Speaking of pictures, we did the 3 roll film fest with Becca this weekend. Totally a lot of fun. Even if you don't have any occasion, it's lots and lots of fun to do! We did a little trespassing, found some really odd stuff, and had a great time.
I'm in Minneapolis this week. I was a bit flustered this morning when I arrived here because my power cable was not in my laptop bag. I remember unplugging it but not putting it in. I assume it's at home on the living room floor. Oh well. I checked my trusty file cabinet and I still had a universal power cable from the last time this happened. I had to find the right adapter tip for it, but once I did, it's working great.
I finished listening to Frankenstein on CraftLit. Now I'm on to Little Women. Gosh I can't help rolling my eyes over how good those girls are. As soon as one of them thinks or says something they shouldn't, they immediately repent. And they re-enact the Pilgrim's Progress for fun. Weird.
Someone just opened a sev 0 defect (showstopper) so I suppose I had best look into that.

Hello! I'm looking for a room in an apartment or house in the city from May 15th to either the end of August or later if we really get along with each other well. The situation is this... I'm paying over half my monthly income to rent an efficiency at West End City apartments. I work full-time and plan on going to STLCC Forest Park full-time in August. I'm also trying to save money to get dental work done so, obviously, paying $600 to rent a room a little bigger than the size of a walk-in closet isn't going to get me anywhere. If anyone here is looking or knows of anyone who is, please read below the cut for more information and leave a comment with your email address and we can go from there. Thank you so much for reading!

hussla brought up the fact that our AWESOME MEETUP WHICH EVERYONE SHOULD TOT ALLY ATTEND is on good friday this year.
You know what I say? I say we capitalize on this opportunity. Let's make a theme. Let's play off some words.
Come on. I think this will be fun. Let's at least make up a witty name. There's so much we can do with this. Maybe I'm being a complete idiot but hello it's a pretty big religious holiday and the internet and I just think this has epic potential.
It doesn't even have to be about easter or jesus or zombies (ok zombies maybe are a necessity). Put your thinking caps on and let's give this meetup a title.

KTVI tweeted this morning that they were going to have Miss Lois on the morning news for an interview. I made some frantic calls to the station (as their understaffed weekend newsroom producer wouldn't pick up but let the 'phone go to recording and I had to keep re-calling, but after I explained why I was calling, she took our telephone number and said she would try to get it to Miss Lois.
Miss Lois called, bless her heart, and said she still had her Magic Mirror with her and could now see Nila, even though fifty years had passed. Always a kind woman who loved children, she understood how a little girl with an unusual name would feel passed over, and then as adults we had a delightful discussion about how much we all missed the show. It was one of the sweetest conversations I have ever had.
Afterward,

We had a an earthquake here last week. It was 4.4 and the epicenter was only 4 kilometers from our house. Everything started to shake pretty hard and I immediately started praying because the pictures of Haiti and Chile passed through my mind. We are on the second floor, so it felt worse. I have emergency bags packed, so I grabbed those and went downstairs with Joshua. Thankfully, there was no damage and no injuries.
I am contacting pastors and getting workshops set up. It is a struggle though. People are not good with commitment here. And, they are horrible about returning phone calls, so I have to keep calling them back.
Joshua is now able to sit up on his own, so that is exciting. He still falls over some, so I have to surround him with pillows.
We went swimming this week at a local pool. I am starting to teach Joshua how to swim. Right now I am just getting him use to the water, but he seemed to like it. He was splashing around. He loved playing with the other kids in the pool.
He also loves playing with the kids at the children´s home. Yesterday I was there and there was a group of people from the US there. One lady thought I was adopting Joshua from the children´s home! I guess he doesn´t look much like me. :-)

St. Louis' Own Post-Apocalyptic Bloodsport
Spring is officially in the air. In the St. Louis sporting world that can mean only one thing...grown men and women beating each other with clubs as they attempt to impale a dog skull on a stake.
What, you were expecting something about the Cardinals? Too bad, we're talking about the Competitive Underground Jugger League.
If you've never heard of Jugger you're not alone. The sport is inspired by the '80s cult classic film The Blood of Heroes. The movie stars Rutger Hauer and takes place in a Mad Max-like post-apocalyptic world. The plot centers around a game called Jugger, in which two five man teams bludgeon each other to death with chains and clubs. The game ends when one team is able to place a severed dog's head on a spiked pole. Think of it like quidditch from Harry Potter, only with blood splatters instead of broomsticks.

It's an easier number to remember for some reason. Yesterday the radio arrived in the morning, along with my bag of crap, which shall be documented in the next post. I had a noon lesson to teach, and then I came back home and installed the radio. I had to solder together the wiring harness, and interestingly enough, there are still some leftover wires that the wiring harness does not accommodate. It seems they're unnecessary, as the radio works just fine. I didn't get to play with it much, as
zinniz needed the car in the evening to go help
beebers wedding dress shop. She did report that it played her podcasts from the iPhone nicely via the USB port. Excellent.
I don't really have anywhere to go today. I plan on going to the rec plex, not only to do some running, but to try and reclaim my foursquare mayorship which I lost yesterday. What can I say, it's annoying on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to work it into my schedule. That's why Thursdays are nice. No lessons. Mondays aren't bad, either, no lessons until 4:00pm.
There's an AGO exec. council meeting on Monday, but I'm going to skip it since Mom will be in town. I think there are only 2 more and my tenure expires. It sounds like Bill W. is going to be sub-dean next year, so that's a good choice. If they still offer me sub-dean in two years, I'd take it.

Google is planning to build ultra-high speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the country. The plan is to deploy 1 Gbps, fiber optic connections directly to people's homes. This connection would be over 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today.
Securing ultra high speed internet infrastructure in St. Louis will provide strong momentum for the creation of next generation internet services, companies, and jobs.
The City is responding to the Request For Information (RFI) released by Google. We will be competing with many other communities across the country to be chosen for this experiment.
One part of the RFI requires us to demonstrate our community support for this project. To this end, we've created the following website:
http://stlcin.missouri.org/googlefiber/
You can help St. Louis get Google Fiber by doing any of the following from this site:
1. Share the site and our effort via Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, or through your own email.
2. Nominate St. Louis as a resident.
3. Get an organization of which you are a member to support our effort.
4. Leave a comment of support on our map.
Please share this site with your friends and family and let's show Google that St. Louis deserves ultra high speed fiber!

Hello!
We are having a meetup for the
stlouis community. During the 08/09 season, we had three, and much fun was had. We have some catching up to do, as it's been like a year since our last one.
So, pencil THE INTERNET in on your blackberry/ical/creepy cats calendar for:
FRIDAY, APRIL 2, 2010
8 PM
SANDRINA'S (5098 Arsenal St, 63139)
Here are some more details, although you should already be sold.
1. Sandrina's has food, and not just any food, awesome food. They are veggie friendly, but have meaty things for you meat people.
Menu can be found somewhere here: sandrinasstl.com/
2. It's pretty big, so even though it's smoking friendly, I think the space is big enough for people to breathe.
3. THEY HAVE GAMES LIKE SCRABBLE AND STUFF
4. It's open til three, and while I personally like to hit the pillow at 9:15 pm, you crazy kids can stay out til the wee hours.
If you are reading this, you really need to come. There are like 200000 people in this community, and while quite a few of you have made it out, many of you have not.
The meetups are full of fun, random, weirdass people. Lots of people have come not knowing a soul, and left with lifelong friends. Okay that sounds kind of lame, but it's true. You can show up for 20 minutes or stay for like 7 hours. You can drink, or not drink. You can play me in Connect 4 and I will destroy you (with love). Please. Please. Please come.
If you have been to any meetups please post in the comments how glorious they are to help convince people to come.
I love you,
Love,
Erica
